why is "hate breeds more hate" a bad thing to say?
Oh so many reasons.
1) it equates the anger of the oppressed to the hate of their oppressors.
2) it blames oppressed groups for their oppression. Bigotry doesn’t exist because people hate bigots. It exists because oppressed people oppose it. It exists because of bigots and because of privileged folks being complicit or tacitly condoning systems of oppression.
3) it’s fundamentally untrue. Hatred of oppression doesn’t lead to more hatred; it leads to progress.
4) it is used to attack any attempt by oppressed people to obtain liberation. Point out that something or someone is repulsively racist and all of a sudden you’re “breeding more hate”.
It’s a fundamental misrepresentation of reality that blames victims and excuses fucked up behavior.
Wearing eyeliner doesn’t make you “girly” or “gay” a lot of girls actually find it attractive. If you wanna put concealer on that pimple go ahead. It doesn’t make you less of a man. Makeup is not intrinsically feminine. Don’t let society’s screwed up gender roles stop you from expressing yourself.
YES Chief Astrid! That’s what I would have changed… in fact that’s what I thought they were going to do when they were setting up how excited she was about it and how he didn’t care for it. I guess the moral was supposed ‘accept your responsibility’… but maybe the next one will be about Astrid becoming official chief so Hiccup can go do his dragon and inventing (you know the things he loves, is amazing at and makes him happy)
“I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.”—Roald Dahl (via isawtoday)
I just got new pants and I went to put something in my pocket… but there aren’t any in the front except that stupid little “coin” one that doesn’t fit anything and there are some in the back what so it’s ok for me to sit on my keys but not to have a bulge in my front pocket? Someone please explain this to me
Now, that would be fine to have no pockets at all, maybe ascetically you prefer not having pockets and I respect that BUT THEY PUT FAKE ONES
I have never been so disappointed in pants
I guess it’s my own fault for not checking but I never considered that you would put FAKE POCKETS on jeans so I didn’t bother to check
Why is it that when someone on tumblr wants to add information to a post they start it with “Nononono you don’t understand” or “I’m gonna school you all”…. it’s usually great and interesting information but why do we need to negate what the other person has posted before making an addition? Why can’t it be “Yes and…” just a ‘here is more information without sounding like a condescending know it all’ instead of a “YOU ARE WRONG AND I KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS THAN YOU SO IMMA TEACH EVERYONE WITH MY GREAT KNOWLEDGE” (this is my impression of it, I’m pretty sure it’s not intended that way)
IDK when I read it I can hear it in my head in the same way we read all caps as yelling and I guess it’s just a quirk/meme. It’s not really a problem but I really do wonder how that all started and what it says about tumblr as a community…
